It’s likely that no one is going to randomly call you today and give you permission to do the thing you’ve been wanting to do. This is because you don’t need it, and because people don’t know know to do that.
When we find ourselves holding back our of feeling like we need approval or validation, we have two choices that can make a difference:
1. Give ourselves permission. Say it out loud, write it down, anything you need to do to make it real. Brené Brown recommends writing yourself a permission slip.
2. Ask someone else who loves us and supports us to verbally give us permission (or write us a permission slip!). Sometimes we simply need to hear it come our of someone else’s mouth to make it real and tangible. Also, the things that we wait for permission to do are often things that the people we love really want for us.
If you’ve been waiting for permission, today is the day to get it.
