Being disciplined is different than being rigid.
Being disciplined is to be a disciple of yourself, while being rigid is to be unwilling to change your behavior or opinions. We sometimes confuse the art of being disciplined with the laziness of being rigid.
The most disciplined person is the one who is always willing to listen, be impacted, and change their mind. To be disciplined means that you understand that your opinions and beliefs are always based in the past and should always be up for reconsideration. This understanding allows the disciplined person to have way more fun and not take everything so seriously.
The most disciplined people are the most adaptable. Your purpose is to be happy and to contribute. In order to do so in an ever-changing world, you need to be willing to change your behaviors and opinions. It is easier to be rigid and set in your ways than it is to be disciplined enough to be adaptable. Choose to do the work of being adaptable, you’ll have more fun!
